Victorian Bushfires - February 2009

OK, I've been absent from my Blog for what seems like forever. Hopefully, this will be the first of many new blog posts. It seems only fitting that my first blog back should be in response to the Victorian Bushfires.

"Black Saturday" - Saturday, 7 February 2009 - will be a day many of us will never forget. It was the hottest day on record in Victoria with temperates soaring to above 46 degrees (C). We'd all heard and seen the warnings that this weekend and this day in particular, was going to be hot and it was going to be dangerous. No-one predicted how dangerous and how deadly it actually turned out to be.

Over 210 people perished; at least 30 people are still missing as I type this post; over 2,000 homes destroyed; over 7,000 people homeless. This has been the worst bushfire in Australian history. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to all of those people directly affected by this terrible and tragic event.

As this blog is a "crafting" blog, I am proud to advise all of my readers that both Stampin' Up and Splitcoaststampers.com, two organisations that I am very closely associated with, are doing their bit to help out my fellow Victorians.

Firstly, Stampin' Up are donating 50% of all sales from 10 nominated stamp sets, for the period from 12 February 2009 to 31 March 2009 (Australia only). To date, the total amount raised as of 5 March 2009 is, $58,131.68 . If you wish to be a part of Stampin' Up's efforts for the bushfire, then please click on the link to the right of this page to visit Stampin' Up's website for details. Please contact me directly if you would like to purchase any of these sets before 31 March 2009 (Australian Residents Only).

Secondly, Splitcoaststampers.com is running a "non-raffle" to help support Bushfire Victims. They are encouraging site visitors to donate to The Australian Red Cross, via the Splitcoast website. A US$5 donation will earn you a ticket into the draw to win one of many, MANY prizes. Again, click on the link to the right of this post to visit Splitcoaststampers.com to get all the details and to make your donation.

OK people - short and sweet this post, but I'm sure you'll all understand why. This post needs it's own space.

I look forward to posting something special again for you all soon.
